Background of the project
Traffic-rule awareness and proper violation management are important for improving road safety and reducing accidents. Today, rules, road-sign information, penalties, and violation records are often scattered across manual or unstructured processes.
The proposed system is a web-based application that brings traffic-rule information, road-safety learning, quizzes, violation reporting, and violation record management into one platform — serving citizens, drivers, and administrators such as traffic police or authorized staff.
The problems we address
- 1Traffic-rule information is hard for the public to access in a structured, user-friendly way — citizens may not know updated rules, signs, or penalties.
- 2Violation records are often handled manually, causing delays, data duplication, poor tracking, and difficulty preparing reports.
- 3There is no single digital system that spreads awareness and manages violation records together.
What the project aims to do
Main objective: develop a web-based Traffic Rule Awareness and Violation Management System.
- ✓Provide traffic rules, road signs, penalties, and safety guidelines in a digital platform.
- ✓Let users learn traffic rules through awareness content and quizzes.
- ✓Enable users to report traffic violations with the necessary details.
- ✓Allow administrators to review, update, and manage violation records.
- ✓Generate useful reports on violations, fine status, and awareness activities.
How we will build it
An iterative methodology — built in small phases with supervisor and user feedback at each step.
1. Requirement analysis
Collect and finalize functional and non-functional requirements.
2. System & DB design
ER diagram, DFD, use-case diagram, UI design, database schema.
3. Implementation
Module-wise development of frontend, backend APIs, and admin functions.
4. Testing & documentation
Functional testing, bug fixing, report writing, and defense preparation.
Requirements & Feasibility
Functional
Registration & login, admin login, view rules/signs/penalties, quizzes, submit & manage violations, update status, generate reports.
Non-functional
Easy to use, secure data, fast access, responsive on desktop & mobile, accurate and consistent records.
Feasibility
Technical, operational & economic: built with common, free web technologies; needs no special hardware.
Literature Review
Existing traffic-management systems usually focus on fine payment, vehicle registration, or licensing services. Few combine public awareness, road-sign learning, quizzes, violation reporting, and administrative management in a single platform — that is the gap our project fills.
The project relates to e-governance, public-safety information systems, and management information systems (MIS). It applies information-management concepts to organize rules, violation records, users, and reports in a structured digital form.
Analysis & Design Tools
Diagrams and models used to analyse and design the system.
Use-case diagram
Actors (citizen, admin) and their interactions.
Data flow diagram
How data moves through the system.
ER diagram
Entities and relationships in the database.
Database schema
Tables, keys, and constraints.
System flowchart
Overall process flow.
Wireframes / mockups
Interface layout before development.
Tools & Technologies
Front End
React, HTML, CSS, JavaScript — responsive user interface.
Back End
Node.js and Express.js REST API with JWT authentication.
Database
MySQL for structured, relational data.
Supporting tools
Git & GitHub for version control; Draw.io for diagrams.
What we will deliver
A working web-based Traffic Rule Awareness and Violation Management System where users access rules, learn road signs, take quizzes, and report violations — and administrators manage information, review reports, update statuses, and generate reports.
Alongside the system, a complete project report covering requirement analysis, design diagrams, implementation, testing, conclusion, and recommendations.
